NGO Capacity Development Fund

The pilot phase of the Small NGO Training Foundation has been over and is now officially launched as the "NGO Capacity Development Fund". All public short management courses held by HKCSS Institute are open for application!

Objectives:

  1. Bridging the gap between non-subvented small NGOs’ training needs and their financial limitations in response to their feedback made in members’ participation survey and interviews.
  2. Reducing the financial barriers for non-subvented NGOs to join the HKCSS Institute’s training for professional development and networking opportunities.
  3. Providing individual-based subsidies without setting quota for the number of application with an aim of fostering capacity building of NGO practitioners.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be a paid staff or board member of:

  1. an agency member of HKCSS
  2. its annual recurrent expenditures is ≦HK$20M, and
  3. which is not eligible for the Social Welfare Development Fund.

If the annual recurrent expenditure of an organization is < HK$10M, its staff members are entitled to a subsidy at 80% of the course fee. If the annual recurrent expenditure of an organization is ≧ HK$10M and up to HK$20M, its staff members are entitled to a subsidy at 50% of the course fee.

Social Work Training Fund (Type III Activities) Partial Sponsorship

To facilitate the improvement of social work knowledge and management skills of social workers, organizations may apply for grants from the Social Work Training Fund (SWTF) to sponsor their social work employees for attending relevant courses organzied by HKCSS Institute.

The purpose of the Scholarship and the Grant is to nurture future leaders and enhance governance of welfare NGOs. The Scholarship supports individuals who wish to pursue a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Non-Government Organization (“NGO”) governance or related areas, whereas the Grant supports individuals who wish to undertake a short course relating to NGO governance or related area overseas.

Scholarship for NGO governance [Application Form]

  • 1. For full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree course overseas.
  • 2. There will be a maximum of 2 scholarships for the 2 batches of awards.  The value of each award shall depend on the expenses involved in the countries in which the awardee will undertake his/her studies as overseas student. The award may include tuition fees, field placement expenses, accommodation, living expenses and travel costs.   
  • 3. Individuals who have permanent resident status in Hong Kong and at least one year of work experience in NGOs in HK, OR fresh graduates who possess NGO work experience in HK prior to pursuing their degree are eligible to apply.
  • 4. Applicants with over 3 years of work experience in a management / leadership position in Hong Kong NGOs in lieu of the academic qualifications mentioned above will also be considered.

Grant for NGO governance [Application Form]

  • 1. For short course overseas. (Course Suggestions)
  • 2. There will be a maximum of 4 awards for each year.  The value of each award shall depend on the expenses involved in the countries in which the awardees will undertake their studies. The award may include course fees, accommodation, living expenses and travel costs.
  • 3. Individuals who have permanent resident status in Hong Kong, with an undergraduate / postgraduate degree in social studies / relevant subjects and at least one year of work experience in NGOs in HK OR fresh graduates who have possessed NGO work experience in HK prior to pursuing their degree are eligible to apply.
  • 4. Applicants with over 3 years of work experience in a management / leadership position in Hong Kong NGOs in lieu of the academic qualifications mentioned above will also be considered.

Application Deadlines

  • 1st Batch Deadline: 15 August 2018 (Wednesday)
  • 2nd Batch Deadline: 15 January 2019 (Tuesday)
  • Late, incomplete or improperly completed applications will not be considered.
